Funds amount to Rs 7,410 million :

The People’s Republic of China (PRC) will grant Rs 7,410 million to the Government to develop all State hospitals in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two countries recently, a Health Ministry spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, Health Ministry Secretary Dr Ravindra Ruberu and CETC (China Electronics Technology Group Corporation) International, China, Chairman Yan Lijin signed the MoU last week. The Ministry will use these fund to develop all State hospitals located in the North and East. New building complexes will be constructed and the existing complexes will be rehabilitated.
North and East hospitals will be given modern medical equipment, ICUs, OPDs, Theatres, Emergency Care Units, medical laboratories and all the other facilities available in other State hospitals.
The State hospitals in these provinces were destroyed due to terrorism and the Ministry was unable to rehabilitate and develop them due to the 30 year-old war in the region.
CETC Chairman Yan Lijin said Sri Lanka is heading towards a new era under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s leadership.
The Chinese Government will extend their fullest support towards Sri Lanka’s development.
Health Ministry Secretary Dr Ravindra Ruberu thanked the Chinese Government for its support and recalled that China has already extended support towards many large-scale development projects in Sri Lanka and assisted those projects financially and technically.
