Govt. seeks Rs. 60 mn for new vehicles

The government yesterday submitted nine supplementary estimates seeking approval for Rs. 60 million to purchase 12 new motor vehicles for the ruling party members.
Among the beneficiaries are the Minister and Deputy Minister of Posts and Telecommunication, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils, Deputy Minister of Plantations, Minister of Livestock and Rural Community Development, Minister and Deputy Minister of Child Development and Women’s Affairs, Minister of Social Services and Deputy Minister of Petroleum Industries.
DNA parliamentary group leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake demanded a debate over the allocation of funds for vehicles. The national List MP emphasized that there could be no reason to acquire new vehicles as the number of ministries had been reduced.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa said that a decision to debate the allocation of funds should be taken at the party leaders’ meeting. ( News- Island)
